Hi Rachel, welcome! I see you are interested in the paranormal, and so you will know more about it than most of us. Please have a look at the postings on "The Filey Ghost" and give us your opinion!!!! Rocky

Default Hi

Hi guys, my name is Balthium, I am new to this forum, so I thought I would say hi, whilst I have only ever been to Butlins once, I am a huge fan and hope to go back there, I went to Minehead butlins with my wife for our honeymoon, a few years ago, and we were planning to go back again this year but my wife has fell pregnant with our second child and is due about the time we were going to go, so we have postponed it, until next year now. Whilst I don't have many story's to share, I do look forward to hearing about some of yours.

Thanks

Default Hello from a newbie!

Hi,

I'm Michelle and visited Butlins Bognor foer the first time 8 months ago for a week. Within 4 months we went back! Just a two night break the second time and thats very tiring as trying to fit alot in. Planning on going back in May.

I vists with my husband and two little boys - ages 3 and 1. My three year old was quite taken with the puppet castle - I foolishly put the Wolves of the Sea song on my Ipod and he wanted it playing in the car all the time!!!

Love Butlins, everyone is well catered for - the pool is amazing, the shows are great and the Ocean Hotel is fab. Just wish it wear nearer - two under 4's tend to melt down on the long journey!!

Looking forward to getting to know others who love going to Butlins!

michelle

Default Hello Everyone

Hiya,

Thought I'd just say Hi, I'm Steve, I'm 34 married with 2 children aged 5 and 2. I'm an Electrician and live in Preston. I personally have been going to Butlins since I was 9. Lost count the amount of times I have been. The last 5 years we have always gone to Minehead, But have been to pwhelli, Ayr and I can just remember Filey. Now we have children we try and go to minehead twice a year and are going back the first week in May. Can't wait!!!

Default Hello all

Hi, another new arrival. Julian (41).

I now live in Sydney, Australia but grew up in Somerset not far from Minehead. So we'd go to that camp almost every school holidays during the 1970s and early 1980's (although always as a day visitor) and I have many great memories of it. In fact my parents met dancing at Butlins Minehead so I guess you could say I owe my very existence to it as well!

I am told by mum that we did stay at Minehead & Barry when I was a baby. But the "full" Butlins holidays I remember are the weeks we had at Pwlheli, Barry and Skegness camps - when I was around 12/13. Went with my best school friend which was great as we had so much to do.

This site looks wonderful, have already spent many happy hours reliving old memories, but it's definitely Minehead that sticks in my mind the most. Have actually been surprised how ingrained some of the memories are - seeing one of the postcards of the kids' playground it was amazing what it brought back - I could still visualise going on all the different rides over 30 years later!

Hoping to come back to visit the UK later this summer and definitely want to go and see Minehead again now although it will probably be quite sad seeing it so different to what I remember - I probably last went there in about 1984. But I guess I am lucky, for those whose equivalent memories are of Barry, Clacton or Filey there's nothing left to even compare to.

I've seen on a few threads there are some chairlift nuts out there - I will be joining you! I loved them even to the point of deliberately getting up really early to try and be on the first car out in the morning, as well as watching the operaters open up & close up etc. They inspired me with my favourite kid's toy at the time too - Lego. I must have built and spent many happy hours playing with lego chairlifts!

Welcome to all the new members! Hope you enjoy Butlins Memories! Look forward to reading your posts.

Fozzy: You are in good company here as we have other members from Australia, the most active member being "Pushbutton" whose favourite camp (out of the 3 still open today) is, I believe, Minehead.

Enjoy all!
